All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations Calls on the West to Strengthen Military Support for Ukraine
Religious leaders called active support the only way to stop aggression and prevent the spread of war in the world.
All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations published an official statement on June 2, 2026 regarding another massive shelling of Ukrainian cities. Religious leaders called on governments of various countries to provide decisive military assistance to the state. Representatives of confessions emphasized that only active support can stop aggression and prevent the spread of war in the world.
The night attack on Kyiv and other regions resulted in the death of 18 people and the wounding of more than a hundred civilians. Explosions damaged residential buildings, hospitals and educational institutions in several cities of the country. Destruction was recorded in a mosque in Dnipro and evangelical churches in Kyiv and Kharkiv region.
Among the affected objects in the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations statement, the UOC temple complex in honor of Saint Sergius of Radonezh in the Solomenskyi district of the capital was also mentioned. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale conflict, about 800 religious objects have been damaged or completely destroyed.
The Council of Churches also called on the international community to strengthen sanctions pressure on politicians and religious figures who support military aggression. The authors of the statement noted that the recent shelling occurred during the celebration of Holy Trinity, and also expressed gratitude to air defense forces and medics for saving lives.
As reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists, Zelensky thanked members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations for "working for victory".
