LGBT march takes place in Jerusalem
Liberal opposition in Israel has turned the annual LGBT march into a large-scale political action against the current government.
On June 4, 2026, in Jerusalem, the annual gay pride march took place, which this time acquired a distinctly political character. The route of the event was changed, directing the columns of participants directly to the Knesset building (Israel's parliament), where activists voiced their demands to lawmakers. This is reported by The Times of Israel.
March participants carried symbolic ballot boxes and chanted slogans about "democracy," speaking out against the current government coalition. The action was openly supported by liberal opposition leaders, particularly Yair Lapid, who called this march a struggle for "Judaism that accepts the other."
Security for the event was provided by more than 2,000 police officers who cordoned off the central quarters of the city with metal barriers. Along the route of the columns, representatives of the conservative group "Lehava" organized a protest. Opponents of the action chanted "Jerusalem is not Sodom" and called what was happening a "march of abomination," pointing to the inadmissibility of such demonstrations in the Holy City.
As the UOJ reported, Israel's Foreign Ministry announced the holding of an LGBT festival near Sodom and Gomorrah.
