In Canada, Muslims have released a guide against Islamophobia

Statistics Canada has recorded an increase in hate crimes against Muslims.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council presented a policy document on combating Islamophobia. The authors prepared this guide in memory of the deaths of three generations of the Afzaal family who were killed in 2021. This was reported by Anadolu Ajansı.

The council's executive director Khaled Alkazaz announced at a press conference in Ottawa that Muslims continue to face violence and unequal treatment despite years of promises from authorities. Activists called on the federal government to move from symbolic gestures to implementing long-standing recommendations for protecting religious communities.

In the document, the organization outlined a four-point plan to counter aggression. Muslims demanded enhanced security for mosques and schools, as well as the implementation of an accountability system within government structures to eradicate systemic prejudices.

Khaled Alkazaz expressed concern about Prime Minister Carney's decision to eliminate the office of the special representative for combating Islamophobia and replace it with an advisory council. He emphasized that believers' expectations regarding the new body remain high and require concrete results.

Statistics Canada recorded a 94 percent increase in hate crimes against Muslims during 2023. Justice For All Canada director Taha Ghayyur stated that behind these figures are real people and children who are afraid to wear religious clothing or attend mosques.

The activist linked the surge in violence to a global ideology of dehumanizing believers that provokes attacks worldwide from New Zealand to the United States. Opposition representatives in parliament confirmed that religious communities across the country report cases of vandalism and intimidation.

As SPJ reported, PACE became concerned with combating anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
