In Somalia, Muslims brutally beat woman for converting to Christianity
A girl who converted to Christianity suffered severe injuries after an attack by relatives and underwent two surgeries.
In Somalia, 22-year-old Sofia Ahmed was brutally attacked by her Muslim relatives after converting to Christianity, reports the Morning Star News.
According to the source, the victim converted to Christianity, which provoked an aggressive reaction from her relatives. The woman was beaten and subjected to violence. The attackers beat Sofia with sticks and struck her face with a sharp object. As a result, she suffered a broken nose and lost a lot of blood. The assault was only stopped after neighbors intervened and called the police.
Law enforcement detained the attackers, but the relatives subsequently secured their release. As local Christians note, the family considered the violence justified due to the girl's rejection of Islam.
The victim was taken to a medical center in the Lower Juba region, where she underwent two surgeries. According to doctors, treatment and recovery will take several more weeks.
Human rights advocates note that in Somalia, converting from Islam to Christianity is considered a serious violation of social norms and can lead to persecution, including threats to life. International organizations call for attention to the situation of Christians in the country and ensuring their protection.
As the UOJ reported, a Christian was tortured for converting to Christianity in Egypt.
