Online Users Outraged by Music Video Where Singer Polyakova Appeared as Christ
Users called the Ukrainian singer's use of the Crucifixion blasphemy and sacrilege.
Ukrainian singer Olya Polyakova found herself at the center of a scandal after the release of a new music video in which she appeared in the image of the Crucified Jesus Christ, while also using profanity. The video provoked a sharp reaction from viewers who considered such artistic techniques offensive to the feelings of believers. This was reported by Telegraf.
The artist presented a new composition as part of her scandalous musical project TheNogi. The song is dedicated to life, which, according to the authors' concept, should not be put on pause. However, public attention was drawn to a fragment of the video where Polyakova appeared as the Crucified Christ.
After the video was published on social media, a significant portion of users sharply criticized the clip, calling the use of the Crucifixion image blasphemy and inappropriate use of religious symbolism in entertainment content.
"Polyakova hit rock bottom, to humiliate faith and saints is just horrible... I don't know what words to choose";
"God, my Lord... forgive them, for they know not what they do";
"God cannot be mocked";
"Usually it's not agnostics or even just non-believers who blaspheme, but those who dislike Jesus, namely demons. Madonna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, those who serve a somewhat different structure having sold their souls, perform the same acts on stage and also rituals and ceremonies. People swallow it. They mocked all religions, but no... only Christ is intolerable to them";
"This Polyakova has always been a laughingstock";
"And before she wasn't rock bottom? Every one of her clips and songs is rock bottom";
"When there's no internal censorship, there's no need to talk about culture. This is complete degradation".
As SPJ reported, in the cathedral of Chernigov, drama theater artists danced before holy relics.
