MPs Accused Military Officer of Religious Hatred Due to Action Against Migrants

A veteran called the politicians' denunciation an attempt to intimidate the military community and suppress any public statements.

On June 2, 2026, People's Deputies Tamila Tasheva and Alexander Kornienko sent an official appeal to Interior Minister Igor Klimenko. The parliamentarians demanded a legal assessment of the actions of serviceman Maxim, who participated in an action against labor migration in Kiev on May 24. This was reported by the public organization "All Together".

The deputies accused the serviceman of unlawful actions and discrimination on religious and ethnic grounds. The MPs considered that the veteran's words about preserving the population composition constitute incitement to hatred.

The law enforcement agency's reaction to the politicians' request was immediate. On June 6, police officers came to Maxim to obtain written explanations regarding the deputies' appeal. Law enforcement has not yet entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, but persistently demanded testimony from the serviceman.

Maxim himself is a veteran who performed combat missions in the Zaporizhzhia direction for three years and participated in direct clashes with the enemy.

The veteran emphasized that politicians are pressuring the military instead of fulfilling their direct duties. "I fought in the Zaporizhzhia direction for three years. What the authorities are proposing to us regarding bringing migrants here and changing our national composition does not suit me," Maxim stated.

In the serviceman's opinion, the deputies receive high salaries only to sit on social media and write such statements. Maxim noted that the main goal of such actions is the authorities' desire to intimidate the military environment and suppress any public statements on acute social issues.

As SPJ reported, the authorities intend to solve business personnel shortage problems with the help of migrants from African countries. This was announced by the head of the President's Office Kirill Budanov at a meeting with Ukrainian business. According to him, the state decided to ease migration barriers due to the shortage of working personnel in the country.
