A 30-kilometer procession took place in Bukovina to the Slatina Monastery

Pilgrims traveled the path from Storozhynets to the women's monastery "Slatina" in Bukovyna with prayers for peace, preservation of the Church, and for the defenders of Ukraine.

On June 13, 2026, a 30-kilometer religious procession took place in Bukovina from Storozhynets to Krasnoilsk Monastery on the eve of the feast of Saint John the New of Suceava, the heavenly patron of Bukovina. This was reported by an SPJ correspondent.

The prayer procession concluded at the walls of the monastery after covering about 30 kilometers. One of the monastery's churches, "Slatina," is consecrated in honor of Saint John the New of Suceava, which is why pilgrims traditionally strive to celebrate his feast at this monastery.

Throughout the entire route, the faithful offered prayers for peace in Ukrainian lands, the preservation of the Church, and God's blessing for all people. They especially prayed for Ukrainian soldiers defending the Motherland and for the swift arrival of just peace.

Religious processions in Chernivtsi region are a long-standing tradition of Orthodox believers in Bukovina. The "Slatina" Monastery in Krasnoilsk is one of the spiritual centers of the region. John the New of Suceava (14th–15th centuries) suffered martyrdom for confessing the Orthodox faith and is especially venerated in Bukovina and Moldova. His memory is commemorated on June 14 (June 2 according to the old calendar).
