The Romanian Patriarchate expressed deep grief and concern in connection with the attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

On June 15, 2026, the Press Service of the Romanian Orthodox Church published an official statement regarding the strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

In Bucharest, it was emphasized that any attempt to desecrate or destroy churches of such magnitude is a tragedy for the entire Christian civilization and universal heritage.

Representatives of the Patriarchate called for prayers for the cessation of violence and the restoration of peace. The Church also stated the need to protect human lives and safeguard the spiritual treasures that have found themselves in a zone of armed conflict.

As reported by SPZh, the authorities showed the condition of the Dormition Cathedral after the shelling.
