22 local residents baptized in Mozambique
The community in Zambezia Province was joined by new faithful, who received the Holy Mysteries of Christ for the first time on All Saints’ Sunday.
On June 6, 2026, on the leave-taking of the feast of Pentecost, a mass baptism of local residents took place in northern Mozambique. This was reported by the African Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The sacrament was performed at the parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Zambezia Province by Fr. Christos Sitoe, the rector of the Holy Trinity parish in the city of Maputo, who is currently making a missionary trip to the northern communities of the country.
In total, 22 Africans joined Orthodoxy. The very next day, June 7, on the 1st Sunday after Pentecost (All Saints), the newly baptized Christians partook of the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time in their lives.
In addition to performing the baptisms, Fr. Christos visited the parish of the Great Martyr Catherine, where he held detailed talks with the faithful about the foundations of Orthodox doctrine. The priest also served a lesser blessing of water service and sprinkled the homes of parishioners of the St. Nicholas Church with holy water.
As the UOJ reported, more than three dozen village residents embraced Orthodoxy in Cameroon.
