Culture Ministry: Government allocated funds for Lavra restoration
Ukraine’s Minister of Culture described the restoration of the country’s cultural heritage as a shared responsibility of the state, business, and society.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated funds from the state reserve fund for the repair of facilities at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra that were damaged during the recent strike. The estimated damage to the Lavra National Preserve has already exceeded UAH 500 million. This was announced by Ukraine’s Minister of Culture, Tetiana Berezhna, on Facebook.
Specialists have documented damage to the Dormition Cathedral as well as 18 other museum and cultural sites on the Lavra grounds. The government promptly approved funding for restoration work, which has already begun. The Ministry of Culture emphasized that restoring this UNESCO World Heritage shrine is a common task for the state, business, and society.
Ukrainian businesses have already joined the restoration effort. PrivatBank and Naftogaz Group confirmed that they will help finance repair work at the Lavra. PrivatBank has also launched a separate fundraising campaign, allowing anyone who wishes to contribute to the restoration of the cathedral.
As the UOJ reported, the Greek Ministry of Culture will also provide funding for restoration work at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
