Dozens of residents embrace Orthodoxy in Mozambique
After administering the sacrament of Baptism, the priest went on to bless the homes of the newly converted Christians.
On June 13, 2026, a mass baptism of local residents took place in the village of Tomboe in Niassa Province. The sacrament was celebrated at a newly established parish of the Russian Orthodox Church by Fr. Christos Sitoe. On that day, 38 people were received into the Church of Christ, according to the African Exarchate of the ROC.
After the baptism, the priest also blessed the homes of the newly converted Christians. The following day, June 14, Fr. Christos celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Parish of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in the same province. During the service, the believers who had been baptized the previous day received Holy Communion for the first time in their lives.
The priest’s missionary journey through the northern regions of Mozambique is continuing. A week earlier, on June 6, the Leavetaking of Pentecost, Fr. Christos Sitoe visited Zambezia Province, where he baptized 22 local residents.
