Conservation work on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has been completed.

On June 23, 2026, emergency restoration work at the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra reached 100 percent of the planned scope, according to Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Andrii Danyk.

To protect the building from further damage caused by moisture, specialists completely covered the damaged sections of the roof with protective materials. Heat guns are now operating around the clock inside the cathedral to dry the building’s structures and interior spaces.

More than 100 rescuers from various units worked for over a week to save the cathedral, using 25 pieces of specialized equipment. Andrii Danyk thanked the personnel for their professionalism and stressed that for millions of people the church remains “a symbol of faith, history, and spiritual strength.”

He noted that thanks to the rescuers’ efforts, an invaluable spiritual heritage site had been preserved.

As the UOJ reported, the authorities recently showed the damage at the Lavra to the President of Honduras and a U.S. diplomat.
