On June 22, 2026, it became known that Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv had been hospitalized. The UOC hierarch continues to receive treatment in a cardiology inpatient unit. Sources in the Cherkasy Eparchy told the UOJ.
According to the sources, the metropolitan underwent comprehensive diagnostics, including an MRI scan, to clarify his diagnosis. During the examination, doctors identified one of the possible causes of complications affecting the central nervous and cardiovascular systems.
The issue concerns the consequences of injuries to the head and cervical spine which, according to the sources, the metropolitan sustained during the forcible seizure of St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral of the UOC in Cherkasy.
In addition, the hierarch’s condition is complicated by stage III chronic arterial hypertension.
The Cherkasy Eparchy is asking the faithful to intensify their prayers for Metropolitan Theodosiy and his speedy recovery.
As the UOJ reported, on the night of October 17, 2024, around 100 people in camouflage and balaclavas broke into the grounds of St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cherkasy. Parishioners were sprayed with gas, beaten, and shot at with a pistol.
