Court selects preventive measure for ex-Minister of Culture who threatened monks of the Lavra
Former acting Minister of Culture Karandeev is suspected of illegal schemes.
The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has selected a preventive measure in the form of nighttime house arrest for former acting Minister of Culture Rostyslav Karandeev, who had threatened the forcible eviction of the brotherhood of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This was reported by pravda.com.
The official is suspected of creating illegal schemes for transporting individuals across the state border. The question of a possible appeal against the decision of the court of first instance will be considered after reviewing the full ruling.
As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported, in 2024 Karandeev announced the eviction of the brotherhood of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. While in office, he publicly spoke about the possibility of forcibly expelling the monks from the monastery.
