LGBT book found in toy section of ATB supermarket
LGBT books are being sold in the children’s section of a Ukrainian ATB supermarket.
An LGBT-themed book with no age labeling was found on a shelf with toys in a Ukrainian ATB supermarket. This was reported by Threads user @arturkyiv.
According to the author of the post, he accidentally picked up Nadia Bila’s book In Love from a basket of toys that also contained children’s literature. He said the book was lying “right on top, in plain sight, like something ordinary” – without any age-restriction markings. The cover, meanwhile, depicts two men kissing. The user said he was shocked to see such a publication in the toy section.
The author of the post noted that he has a ten-year-old son – “precisely the age when a worldview, preferences, and life position are being formed.” He asked how acceptable it is to sell such publications in a children’s section without age restrictions if no relevant law or regulation exists.
“Maybe I am too conservative,” the user wrote, while stressing that the book had been placed there “simply as something ordinary.”
As the UOJ reported, a bill supporting gender equality and LGBT issues had been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. At the same time, Ukraine has still not adopted special legislation regulating the placement of LGBT-themed books in children’s retail sections – the very issue raised by the author of the viral post.
