A replica mosque was placed on a traditional bonfire in Northern Ireland alongside banners protesting illegal immigration and radical Islam.

On July 10, 2026, a replica mosque erected on a traditional bonfire was burned in the village of Moygashel in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, RTÉ News reports.

Organizers described the event as a political protest against radical Islam, uncontrolled illegal mass immigration, and open-border policies. The structure was adorned with banners reading “Secure Our Borders” and “End the Threat of Radical Islam.”

Representatives of the Moygashel Bonfire Association stressed that the protest was not directed against individual people but against radical ideology and government migration policies. According to them, the authorities have ignored public concerns about rising illegal immigration and threats to public safety.

When police began preparations to remove the structure, the bonfire was lit a day earlier than scheduled. Law enforcement officials treated the incident as a possible hate crime, and one participant was subsequently charged.

Traditional bonfires are lit across Northern Ireland ahead of Orange Order parades commemorating the victory of the Protestant King William III at the Battle of the Boyne. In recent years, the Moygashel site has also been used for political demonstrations against illegal immigration and open-border policies.

As previously reported by the UOJ, a Belgian teacher who converted from Islam to Christianity has received threats over his faith.
