In August, searches for the burial sites of Ukrainian civilians killed in 1944 are planned to begin in the Polish village of Laskuv.

On July 15, 2026, Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar stated that searches for the burial sites of Ukrainian civilians in the village of Laskuv could begin as early as August, reports RMF24.

The matter concerns residents of Ukrainian villages who, according to the Ukrainian side, were killed in 1944 by units of the Home Army and the Peasant Battalions.

«Last year we submitted three applications to the Institute of National Remembrance on this matter, one of which has already received support. Now we need to obtain approval from the voivodeship monument conservator. We hope to begin the first works in Laskuv in August», – said Bodnar.

The Ukrainian side also requested that searches be conducted in Sakhryn and Przemysl. Poland's Institute of National Remembrance announced that it supported the works in Laskuv, while requesting additional documents regarding the two other localities.

In 2025, Ukrainian specialists had already conducted search operations in Yurechkiv, where members of the UPA killed in 1947 were presumed to have been buried. However, no burials were discovered during the investigation.

Previously, the SPJ reported that exhumations of victims of the Volyn tragedy had begun in the Rivne region.
