The Transfiguration Cathedral of the Sumy Eparchy came under fire on July 17.

The Sumy Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has reported that its Transfiguration Cathedral was damaged in an overnight strike on Sumy.

On the night of July 17, 2026, Russian forces struck central Sumy with guided aerial bombs. The blast wave damaged the Transfiguration Cathedral, shattering 35 windowpanes.

The windows in the drum – the cylindrical section beneath the dome – under the central cupola suffered particularly severe damage, with shards of glass falling inside the church.

In addition to the cathedral itself, a church building located within the cathedral compound was also damaged.

As previously reported by the UOJ, a UOC church in Yunakivka, Sumy region, was destroyed in shelling.
