Opening synagogues is our answer to Putin, – Zelensky
Zelensky called synagogues, Holocaust memorials, and an anti-antisemitism law Ukraine's response to Russia's accusations of Nazism.
Vladimir Zelensky stated that synagogues, Holocaust memorials, and the country's anti-antisemitism law are Ukraine's response to accusations from Russia. He said this in an interview with American blogger Laura Loomer.
When asked whether there are Nazis in Ukraine, the president stated that there are "none and never have been," and referred to "hundreds of minorities" and Jewish communities in the country.
Zelensky separately addressed Ukraine's anti-antisemitism legislation, calling it special and one of the strictest. According to him, no analogous law exists in Europe, and it was adopted during his presidency.
"We have a special, very strict law. No European country has such a strict law. Antisemitism is outlawed with us. We did this during my presidency – we adopted this law by vote," Zelensky stated.
According to him, "the number of synagogues, the number of such tragic memorials, the number of such stories, the number of these millions of people – this, and the law, and everything else – this is the answer to Putin."
As Laura Loomer herself noted in the interview, the United States has no such norm directly prohibiting antisemitism.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in honor of Passover, Zelensky received rabbis from across Ukraine at the Office of the President.
