UOC Holds "Backpack of Mercy" Campaign for Displaced Children
As part of the annual charity campaign, the UOC plans to collect backpacks and stationery for more than 300 children from internally displaced families.
On July 27, 2026, the Synodal Department of the UOC called on everyone to join the annual charity campaign "Backpack of Mercy," aimed at preparing more than 300 children from internally displaced families for school, according to the official Telegram channel of the UOC Synodal Department for Social and Humanitarian Affairs.
The organizers noted that many parents today find it difficult to prepare their children for school on their own. This is especially hard for families who, due to the war, were forced to leave their homes, lost their jobs, and are starting life in a new place.
For each child, organizers plan to purchase a quality backpack with the necessary school supplies – notebooks, drawing pads, art materials, and other stationery. The cost of one complete set amounts to up to 3,000 hryvnias.
The Synodal Department emphasized that hundreds of children need support in order to begin the new school year with the necessary supplies and to feel the care of those around them.
The UOC called on all those who care to join the fundraising effort and help displaced children receive new backpacks and stationery before the start of the school year.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a UOC parish in Kropyvnytskyi prepared 18,000 free meals in 2026.
