The oldest church in Kyiv celebrated its patronal feast
Metropolitan Viktor led the festive service at the Elijah Church in the capital.
Metropolitan Viktor of Khmelnytskyi and Starokostiantyniv led the patronal feast at the Elijah Church in Kyiv. The solemn liturgy on August 2 was attended by numerous faithful and clergy of the capital. This was reported by the UOC Information Center.
The hierarch was co-served by the vicar of the Kyiv Metropolitanate Archbishop Spyrydon of Vyshnevе, the rector of the church Archpriest Vitaliy Kosovskyi, and the spiritual father of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Archimandrite Antoniy (Oliferovych). During the service, a fervent prayer was offered for the soldier-defenders, for peace in Ukraine, and for all those who have suffered from the war.
After the service, His Grace Viktor conveyed congratulations to the community on behalf of the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy. The archpastor especially congratulated the rector Father Vitaliy, who has been serving at the Elijah Church for 35 years.
The Holy Elijah Church is considered the first Christian church in the capital. According to church tradition, it was built even before the Baptism of Rus in 988.
