Several thousand pilgrims are walking in the cross procession from Volhynia to Pochaev
A state media outlet reported 2,000 participants in the UOC cross procession to the Pochaev Lavra.
Several thousand pilgrims are taking part in the cross procession of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from Volhynia region to the Pochaev Holy Dormition Lavra. This was reported by the state outlet "Suspilne".
According to journalists, on August 3 at around 4:00 PM the participants of the prayer procession crossed the administrative border between Rivne and Ternopil regions. Correspondents estimated that more than two thousand people are walking in the column. The pilgrims are accompanied by law enforcement officers.
Prior to this, the participants of the cross procession made a two-hour rest stop in the village of Podzamche in Rivne region. As "Suspilne" notes, they have approximately nine kilometers left to walk to the Pochaev Lavra.
The cross procession is being held on the eve of the feast of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God, which is celebrated annually on August 5. On this day, solemn divine services take place at the Pochaev Lavra, traditionally drawing thousands of Orthodox faithful from various regions of Ukraine.
As the UOJ reported, UOC faithful began a cross procession from Kovel to the Pochaev Lavra.
