Patriarch Bartholomew: Our Church Seeks Unity with the UGCC
The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople declared his Church's aspiration for unity with the UGCC.
Patriarch Bartholomew, at a meeting with representatives of the UGCC, declared the aspiration for unity between the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Greek Catholic Church of Ukraine. This was reported by the UGCC press service.
The meeting, attended by UGCC cleric Ivan Stefurak, took place during the Ecumenical Patriarch's stay in Rome.
During the conversation, the head of the Church of Constantinople recalled his meetings with Sviatoslav Shevchuk and asked that his sincere fraternal greetings be conveyed to him as a sign of the good relations between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the UGCC. According to him, these relations are founded on ongoing dialogue, shared witness to Christian values, and the aspiration for the unity of the Churches.
As the UOJ reported, according to Shevchuk, union with the Orthodox will not undermine the unity of the UGCC.
