DESS launches probe into Zaporizhzhia Eparchy’s alleged ties to Moscow
The State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience is investigating whether the administration of the UOC's Zaporizhzhia Eparchy is affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Zaporizhzhia Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has become the subject of an investigation into possible ties with Moscow, according to the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS).
According to the agency, DESS specialists have begun an investigation to determine whether the administration of the UOC’s Zaporizhzhia Eparchy is subordinate to a “foreign religious organization.”
At the time of publication, the Zaporizhzhia Eparchy had not officially commented on the investigation.
As reported by the UOJ, the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience previously found the Korets Monastery to be affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church, putting the monastery at risk of being banned. Similar investigations into alleged ties with Moscow have already targeted several UOC eparchies and monasteries across Ukraine.
