Pope Leo XIV again calls for end to war in Ukraine

The Pontiff called on the parties to observe humanitarian law and cease strikes on civilian infrastructure.

Pope Leo XIV has called for an end to the military conflict in Ukraine. The Pontiff spoke of a growing number of civilian casualties and urged a halt to strikes on civilian infrastructure. This was reported by Reuters.

Before the faithful gathered for Sunday prayer, the head of the Roman Catholic Church drew attention to the tragic consequences of the ongoing hostilities. He emphasized that innocent people in Ukraine and Russia are being killed and wounded as a result of the armed conflict.

"Tragic incidents are multiplying, increasing the number of casualties among the civilian population and children," said Pope Leo. "I once again sincerely call on the parties to observe international humanitarian law and to cease strikes on civilian targets on both sides."

As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported, the Pope called Europe's growing military spending a betrayal of diplomacy.
