The number of people at the Transfiguration service in the Chernihiv church seized from the UOC has been shown online
In Chernihiv, only a few dozen people attended the OCU service at the Trinity Cathedral, which was seized from the UOC, on the Feast of the Transfiguration.
On August 10, 2026, photographs of the OCU service on the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord at the Trinity Cathedral in Chernihiv — previously seized from the UOC community — were published online, as reported by Archimandrite Jonah (Cherepanov) on his Facebook page.
The published images show that during the festal service, a significant portion of the spacious cathedral remained empty. Only a few dozen people were present in various parts of the church, with considerably more open space than areas occupied by worshippers.
The author of the post drew attention to the small number of participants at the service on one of the most venerated Orthodox feast days. This is especially noticeable against the backdrop of former UOC services, when the Trinity Cathedral was filled with the faithful.
The Trinity Cathedral had previously been in the use of the UOC community. After the UOC faithful and clergy were denied access to the shrine, the cathedral was transferred to the OCU, whose representatives now conduct services and other events there.
The new photographs once again captured the current situation in the cathedral: despite the size of the building and the festive occasion, a comparatively small number of people attended the OCU service.
The Union of Orthodox Journalists previously reported that the UOC called the empty Trinity Cathedral in Chernihiv a symbol of de-Christianization.
