UGCC head urges Ukrainians not to fear "apocalyptic scenario" in winter
Sviatoslav Shevchuk stated that talk of an inevitable economic and energy collapse in Ukraine this winter is part of an information-psychological attack on Ukrainians.
The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk urged Ukrainians not to fear predictions of "apocalyptic scenarios" for the coming winter, calling them part of Russia's information-psychological pressure on society. He made these remarks in his traditional weekly video address.
"Ukrainians are being tempted with the idea that a terrible end is better than endless terror. Ukrainians are being convinced that Ukraine will inevitably face — especially this winter — an economic collapse, an energy collapse, and many other apocalyptic scenarios that in reality have no foundation and no force whatsoever," Shevchuk stated.
He did not specify whose statements exactly he considers part of the Russian information campaign. Prime Minister Koretsky stated that the winter would be "objectively difficult" and that Ukraine lacks 650 million for energy sector preparations. Volodymyr Zelensky also mentioned that Ukrainians face a "very hard winter".
According to Shevchuk, Ukrainians must "once again find the strength within themselves" to resist not only military attacks but also "information attacks — on our soul and our heart."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Shevchuk, Ukrainians are being coerced into some imaginary truce.
