Baumeister: Mobilization of priests is Ukraine's invention
Philosopher Andriy Baumeister stated that the mobilization of priests to the front is a Ukrainian know-how, with no precedents in either the First or the Second World War.
The forced mobilization of Orthodox clergy to the front is an egregious fact that has no analogues in the world history of wars of the 20th century. This was stated by philosopher and publicist Andriy Baumeister on the air of the YouTube channel Politeka Online.
«We have our own know-how. Here is one of them: to mobilize Orthodox priests to the front to fight. This is Ukraine’s know-how. No one has done this – neither in the First World War, nor in the Second, regardless of which side those forces were on», the philosopher said.
According to him, he regularly sees evidence of this on social media.
«I constantly see requests for help or descriptions of these facts. They began to declare the UOC practically outlawed, and then, despite the fact that these are priests, that they serve and by the very nature of their calling should not hold assault rifles, they are simply mobilized to the front», Baumeister noted.
He emphasized that this is «only one of the egregious facts», and added: «I think one could look for precedents in history – and we will not find them».
Against this backdrop, the philosopher believes, talk about the state of Ukrainian democracy loses its meaning.
«There is definitely no need to talk about democracy. There is no need to talk about civil society. Opinion leaders have effectively turned – I am speaking about what is happening inside the country – into propaganda resources of the authorities», he stated.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that men in balaclavas abducted a UOC priest in Lutsk.
