"Azov" brings Konovalets' remains on armored car to Kyiv UGCC cathedral
The 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, led by "Azov" commander Andriy Biletsky, brought the remains of the founder of the Ukrainian Military Organization (UMO) and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), Yevhen Konovalets, to the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Christ's Resurrection of the UGCC in Kyiv, reports Ukrinform.
The ceremony took place on the first night after Konovalets' remains returned to Ukraine. His ashes were brought to the cathedral in an original Austin armored car dating back to the Ukrainian Revolution. At the church, Konovalets was greeted with a corridor of torches.
An artillery gun carriage was attached to the armored car, which in Ukrainian and European tradition is considered a mark of the highest military honor. A three-inch gun was also attached to the vehicle, an original 1917 model that was used by the army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in the Sich Riflemen division under Konovalets’ command.
It is noted that during the ceremony, servicemen paid tribute to the leader of the nationalist movement, while beams of light were directed into the sky.
As the UOJ previously reported, the remains of OUN (M) leader Melnyk were brought to the UGCC cathedral in Kyiv earlier.
