The condition of the seized UOC church in Khotyn shown online
Deep cracks have appeared on the facade of the church in Khotyn that was taken from the UOC.
Photos of the ancient St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Khotyn, Chernivtsi region, seized from the UOC, have been published online. The images posted in the Telegram channel "Pershyi Kozatskyi" demonstrate the deterioration of the building's exterior following its transfer to the control of museum staff and representatives of the OCU.
Believers took the photographs in the summer of 2026, which attest to the neglect of the surrounding grounds and the church itself. The pathway and the church steps have become overgrown with grass and shrubs. Deep cracks have appeared on the facade, plaster has fallen off in places, and the domes are covered with a layer of grime. A tilt of the cross is visible on the main dome.
In April 2023, officials definitively seized the shrine from the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. After that, the museum administration transferred the church to the OCU.
In 1990, the community received the building in a condition close to complete ruin. Orthodox Christians carried out an extensive restoration of the church on their own. In 2020, before the process of seizing the church began, parishioners photographed the fully renovated church.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the UOC commented on the collapse of the wall of Khotyn Fortress.
