Metropolitan Mitrofan wounded after UAV strike on cathedral in Horlivka
On August 23, 2026, Metropolitan Mitrofan of Horlivka was wounded following a UAV strike on the Holy Theophany Cathedral in Horlivka. This was reported by Russian media, citing the head of the "DPR," Denis Pushilin.
According to Pushilin, the cathedral was attacked by a Ukrainian drone during a church service. In addition to the hierarch, priest Roman Stepin and two volunteers were also wounded. The condition of the injured is assessed as moderate severity.
Earlier, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported that the son of a priest of the Nizhyn diocese was killed at the front.
