National Memory Institute head receives ‘Montenegrin Church’ leader in Kyiv
Alferov said the “Montenegrin Church” has seen “significant progress in institutionalization and consolidation.”
Oleksandr Alferov, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, reported that Bojan Bojović – head of the non-canonical body calling itself the “Montenegrin Orthodox Church” – had visited Ukraine and personally brought humanitarian aid from Montenegro. Alferov wrote about the visit on Facebook.
According to Alferov, Bojović is a friend of his and the two have known each other since 2010, when they both enrolled in a correspondence program at the UOC-KP theological academy. Alferov said that in recent years the “Montenegrin Church” has undergone “significant progress in institutionalization and consolidation.”
Archbishop Jonah of Obukhiv commented on the post.
“A fake ‘metropolitan’ of a fake ‘church.’ That says something about the level of education among officials,” the hierarch wrote.
The so-called Montenegrin Orthodox Church was established in the 1990s and is not recognized by any of the Local Orthodox Churches. Canonical jurisdiction in Montenegro belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church through the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral, headed by Metropolitan Joanikije.
As the UOJ reported, a scandal previously erupted in the Orthodox world over Bojović’s presence at an OCU “service” in Kyiv attended by Metropolitan Emmanuel (Adamakis) of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
