In Nigeria, a pastor and four other Christians were killed as a result of a series of Islamist attacks. Another clergyman remains in captivity.
On August 28 and 29, 2026, a series of attacks on Christians took place in the Nigerian state of Plateau, resulting in the deaths of five people, including a Protestant pastor. Another clergyman was abducted, reports Daily Post.
Islamists stopped a passenger minibus and forcibly took away two pastors. One of them was later found killed near the site of the abduction. The fate of the second clergyman remains unknown; the kidnappers have contacted his family.
That same night, armed militants attacked several more Christian settlements. People were killed and wounded, and homes were set on fire. In total, five attacks targeting Christians took place in a single night.
Observers link the incidents to the ongoing violence against Christian communities in Nigeria's Middle Belt. In the region, Christians regularly fall victim to killings, abductions, and attacks by armed Islamist groups, while the issue of protecting their lives and their right to freely practice their faith remains extremely acute.
The Union of Orthodox Journalists previously reported that Islamists in Nigeria killed 24 Christians during a nighttime attack on a settlement.
