Zelensky condemns murder of RCC priest in Poland
Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack on a Benedictine convent a horrific crime and urged a swift investigation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the attack by a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen on a Benedictine convent in the Polish city of Jarosław, calling it a “horrific crime” and demanding that the perpetrator be held accountable.
The president expressed condolences over the death of a Catholic priest and said he expected a swift and thorough investigation into all the circumstances of the tragedy.
“A horrific crime at the Benedictine Sisters’ abbey in Jarosław, committed by a Ukrainian citizen. We are shocked by this evil... We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We wish all those injured a speedy recovery.”
Zelensky said the knife attacker must face the full force of the law.
“The person responsible for this evil must be held fully accountable under the law. We expect a swift and thorough investigation into all the circumstances. It is painful that people are capable of such horrific crimes. Justice must prevail,” the president stated.
As a reminder, on August 23, 2026, a group of unidentified individuals in military uniforms brutally attacked members of the Sviatohirsk Lavra near St. Nicholas Church in the upper part of the monastery. Monk Varsonofiy (Turianskyi) was killed in the attack, suffering a gunshot wound that passed through his head and neck. Two other monastery novices sustained serious injuries. No response to the crime has followed from representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the parish of a Constantinople Patriarchate church in New York would host a dinner in Zelensky’s honor.
