Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monks honor memory of St. Sergius of Radonezh
The brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra held services commemorating St. Sergius of Radonezh.
On the feast day of St. Sergius of Radonezh and St. Dosithea the Recluse of Kyiv, the brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra celebrated solemn services at the Churches of St. Agapitus and St. Sergius in the Lower Lavra.
On the eve of the feast, Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, presided over the All-Night Vigil, concelebrated by the Lavra clergy. On the feast day itself, Archimandrite Seraphim, the monastery’s sacristan, celebrated the Divine Liturgy together with the monastery’s brethren and visiting clergy.
Festive services were also held at the Church of St. Sergius, which was restored in 2010 and is located near the Church of St. Agapitus of the Caves.
St. Sergius of Radonezh, who lived two centuries after the founding fathers of the Kyiv Caves Monastery, followed the example of Sts. Anthony and Theodosius in his brotherly love and patient life of prayer. Like the founders of monasticism in the Kyiv Caves, St. Sergius called people to peace in Christ and fostered the spiritual growth of society. The continuing miracles at his holy relics bear witness to the power of his prayerful intercession to this day.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra celebrated the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.
