Pope urges safe grain exports from Ukraine
The Pontiff called on the warring parties to ensure grain shipments through the Black Sea, on which the food supply of the poorest countries depends.
On October 11, 2026, Pope Leo XIV called on the warring parties to ensure the safe transportation of grain from Ukraine through the Black Sea, reports the Vatican press office in its message.
The Pontiff noted that the war causes suffering far beyond Ukraine. Its consequences especially affect the poorest countries, where many people depend on grain imports.
Addressing the parties to the conflict, the head of the Roman Catholic Church asked them to ensure the safety of grain shipments. "The daily bread of millions of people cannot be held hostage by war," he stressed.
In the same address, the Pope said that during routine examinations, doctors found a nodule in his lung at a very early stage. On the recommendation of physicians, he agreed to an operation to remove it, scheduled for the coming days, and asked the faithful for their prayers.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Pope Leo XIV called for making concessions to achieve peace in Ukraine.
