Lavra reserve cancels stamp featuring Ukrainian intelligence patron saint
Ukrainian military intelligence representative Andriy Yusov said that having a heavenly patron has made Ukrainian intelligence officers even stronger.
The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra hosted a special postage stamp cancellation ceremony dedicated to Archangel Gabriel, the heavenly patron of Ukrainian military intelligence, Ukrinform reports.
The stamp was issued by Ukrposhta in cooperation with the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense. Its design features a reproduction of an icon of Archangel Gabriel created by artists Serhiy Herasymenko and Oksana Samson in the style of 18th-century Ukrainian Baroque.
Andriy Yusov, a representative of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, emphasized the special significance of gaining a heavenly protector.
“Military intelligence agencies in many countries have their own symbols. Ukrainian intelligence has its own symbols as well, but few, if any, have a heavenly patron. We now have one, and we continue to develop this tradition in art and symbolism.”
Yusov added that Ukrainian intelligence officers continue to carry out their assigned missions, but having a heavenly patron has made them even stronger.
As the UOJ previously reported, Ukrposhta issued a stamp featuring the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to mark the anniversary of the Soviet-era Reserve.
