Yelensky admitted that John Paul II’s visit was a step “away from Moscow” and was linked to the two Maidans. Let us look at what the UGCC gained from it – and where it brought the rest of Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Speaker, the pontiff's arrival would be a powerful sign of spiritual support and solidarity for millions of the country's residents. During the talks, the representative of the Holy See expressed sympathy for the Ukrainian people. "We are pained by the war in Ukraine. We are pained when international humanitarian law is violated and civilians die."

Separately, the sides discussed assistance to the families of Ukrainian prisoners of war and the return of people home. Stefanchuk also noted interest in deepening cooperation with the Holy See at the parliamentary level and developing dialogue.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to the DESS head, the Pope's visit to Ukraine led to two Maidans.
