RCC estimates aid to Ukraine via church organizations at over €1 billion
The Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine said that if political leaders fail to bring about peace, local communities must take responsibility for building it.
Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas said that the Catholic Church has provided more than €1 billion in humanitarian and psychological assistance to Ukraine through international religious organizations, according to CREDO.
The diplomat said that Church organizations distribute food and drinking water, provide housing assistance, support displaced people, and offer psychological rehabilitation services.
The Catholic archbishop also pointed out that Catholics make up a minority of Ukraine's population. According to him, approximately 12% of Ukrainians belong to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), less than 1% are Roman Catholics, and another 1% belong to the Byzantine-rite Mukachevo Eparchy.
The papal representative also emphasized that if political leaders fail to resolve the conflict, local communities must take responsibility for building peace.
As the UOJ previously reported, the UOC disclosed the scale of the assistance it has provided during the war.
