Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry plans advocacy visits abroad for UCCRO
Members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations have planned advocacy visits abroad following a meeting with Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister.
Members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) have planned a series of advocacy visits abroad, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reported following a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa, council representatives, and religious freedom experts.
The meeting brought together representatives of the OCU, Greek Catholics, Muslims, Roman Catholics, Protestants, and Jewish organizations. Oleksandr Zaiets, chairman of the board of the Institute for Religious Freedom, also attended.
According to the ministry, participants discussed freedom of conscience in Ukraine and challenges arising from Russia’s aggression. Betsa stated that “Russia’s systematic, cynical attacks on religious sites, as well as the persecution of clergy, are not isolated incidents but part of a deliberate policy aimed at destroying Ukrainian identity.”
UCCRO representatives expressed their willingness to assist the Foreign Ministry not only with religious diplomacy but also with information efforts to counter Russian propaganda. To this end, plans include visits abroad by council members, engagement with relevant international organizations, and participation in international forums.
As the UOJ previously reported, UCCRO briefed a German delegation on religious persecution in Russian-occupied territories.
