Metropolitan Tychikos asks Cyprus Synod to let him conduct services
Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos has sent a letter to the Synod of the Church of Cyprus requesting permission to celebrate services in Paphos.
Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos has appealed to the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus for permission to resume celebrating services, UOJ-Greece reports. The letter is dated October 14, 2026.
In the letter, the hierarch requests permission to resume his liturgical duties as a bishop. He says he is currently living as a guest in a house provided to him in Paphos and is willing to serve wherever the Synod designates, in accordance with canonical order.
Metropolitan Tychikos also challenges the procedures followed at the Synod's May 2025 meeting and the subsequent suspension imposed on him. He maintains that his rights were not adequately protected during those proceedings.
Metropolitan Tychikos did not attend a Synod meeting to which he had been invited, although he retained the right to participate. The Synod decided to arrange a meeting between the Archbishop of Cyprus and the metropolitan in the coming days.
In his letter, the hierarch asks for clarification of the reasons for the summons, his ecclesiastical status, and the matters to be discussed. He also requests that any future invitations clearly specify the agenda in writing.
As the UOJ previously reported, Metropolitan Tychikos announced plans to pursue legal action in Cypriot and European courts. The case also remains pending in the civil courts following a lawsuit he filed.
