Patriarch Theophilos expresses readiness to mediate in Ukraine-Russia war
Jerusalem Patriarch calls peacemaking a spiritual duty of religious leaders.
Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem has stated that he takes with particular seriousness the proposal to become a mediator in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, reports To Vima.
The Primate of the Jerusalem Church said that US President Donald Trump, in the Oval Office, supported his initiative to take on a mediating role.
"Religious leaders bear a spiritual and moral responsibility to promote peace, and we approach diplomacy as humble servants of those who suffer," the Patriarch of Jerusalem stressed.
The First Hierarch added that he sees it as his duty to keep channels of communication open, to convey the hopes of ordinary people to the leaders of states, and to facilitate dialogue.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Bulgarian Primate supported Patriarch Theophilos' initiative on Ukraine.
