Police in several German cities are investigating reports of needles, pins, and nails hidden in candy collected by children on Halloween.

Police across Germany have launched investigations after families discovered dangerous objects in their children's Halloween candy. Sewing needles, pins, and nails were found inside chocolate bars and other sweets collected during trick-or-treating on October 31, UOJ-Germany reports.

Cases of candy tampering have been reported in Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and other parts of the country.

In Bremervörde, a nine-year-old girl injured her tongue on a two-inch pin concealed inside a chocolate bar. Police in Rostock also reported that another child had suffered an injury inside the mouth.

In Hanover, a nine-year-old girl discovered sewing needles in three separate packages – a chocolate bar and two chewy candies. In Bremen and Ludwigshafen, parents spotted nails hidden in chocolate bars before their children could eat them.

Police confirmed similar discoveries in Essen, Nuremberg, Emmerich, Bad Rappenau, Illingen, and Hermeskeil.

German police have opened criminal investigations on suspicion of attempted aggravated assault. Authorities urged parents to carefully inspect all candy collected by their children, looking for puncture marks or damaged packaging, and to immediately turn over any suspicious items to police.

As the UOJ previously reported, social media users had called for banning Halloween celebrations in schools and kindergartens.
