Disciple of St. Justin Popović reposes in the Lord in Germany
Schema-Archimandrite Basil (Grolimund), founder of the Orthodox Skete of St. Spyridon in Germany, has reposed in the Lord at the age of 83.
On November 3, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Schema-Archimandrite Basil (Grolimund), founder and abbot of the Skete of St. Spyridon in Geilnau, Germany, peacefully reposed in the Lord at the age of 83. The skete belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church, UOJ-Germany reports.
The monastic community announced the elder’s passing on its official Facebook page and asked the faithful to pray for the repose of his soul. Once the necessary arrangements have been completed, Fr. Basil’s body will be placed in the skete’s chapel, where the reading of the Gospel will begin. The faithful will have an opportunity to pay their last respects to the abbot and join the community in prayer. The date of his burial at the skete will be announced later.
Schema-Archimandrite Basil was born in 1943 in Muri, Switzerland. He studied theology in Athens and became a spiritual disciple of St. Justin Popović of Ćelije, who tonsured him a monk in 1971.
Fr. Basil later pursued monastic life on Mount Athos, where he received spiritual guidance from St. Paisios the Athonite. In 1989, together with Fr. Justin (Rauer), he founded the Skete of St. Spyridon in Geilnau an der Lahn, Germany.
As the UOJ previously reported, Archimandrite Ioustinos, the longtime guardian of Jacob’s Well, reposed in the Lord in Jordan.
