A Kyiv Theological Academy associate professor has translated 75 selected theological treatises by St. Photios of Constantinople into Ukrainian, complete with scholarly commentary.

The Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary (KDAiS) has published a new theological work – a Ukrainian translation of 75 selected treatises by St. Photios, Patriarch of Constantinople, titled Amphilochia: Selected Treatises, the KDAiS press service reports.

According to Fr. Herman, the study was conducted by people who lack understanding of church realities, who manipulated documents and simply tailored the conclusions to fit a predetermined result.

The translation from Ancient Greek, accompanied by extensive scholarly commentary, was prepared by Archimandrite Herman (Kovach), an associate professor at the Kyiv Theological Academy. The book was published with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The editorial board included KDA Professor Oleksandr Levko, who holds a Candidate of Philological Sciences degree, and Associate Professor Pavlo Mykhalitsyn, who holds degrees in theology and history.

The collection features St. Photios' ninth-century interpretations of theological, biblical, and scientific questions that concerned his contemporaries. The texts are organized into several thematic sections: Biblical Exegesis, Old Testament, New Testament, Theology and Dogmatics, Divine Providence, Canon Law, Church Archaeology, Science and Medicine, and Ethnography.

The volume is illustrated with drawings from two ninth-century manuscripts dating to the Macedonian dynasty, Ambrosianus E49 and Ambrosianus E50. It also includes research articles and papers by Archimandrite Herman (Kovach), offering detailed analyses of individual treatises.

A presentation of an advance copy is scheduled for November 9, 2026, during the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary's annual celebration, with the main print run expected in early December. The book is intended for clergy, faculty members, theological students, and anyone interested in Orthodoxy.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary had published textbooks on Holy Scripture and catechism.
