On 10 September 2023, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the supply of weapons to Ukraine is "compatible with Christianity and is a justified measure". He said this during a speech at the "International Peace Meeting" in Berlin, reports DW.

Steinmeier said that when deciding to supply Ukraine with weapons, he had a dilemma between the Christian precept of peace and support for the victims of Russian aggression.

He also noted that the issues of supplying weapons "bother him as a Christian".

As reported, the Pope blessed the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
