The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) states that UOC Metropolitan Yevlogy of Sumy received a suspicion based on their materials.
According to the SBU's Telegram channel, Metropolitan Yevlogy "incited believers to religious hatred" and "was involved in stirring up interfaith hatred in Ukraine".
"The Security Service has gathered evidence of illegal activities by the head of the Sumy Diocese of the UOC. According to the investigation, the cleric insulted the religious feelings of believers of other faiths during his sermons and in video recordings on his social media pages," the SBU wrote.
They are convinced that the actions of Metropolitan Yevlogy "created preconditions for interfaith strife in our state".
In connection with this, the SBU initiated an "expertise", which, according to law enforcement officers, "confirmed the facts of unlawful actions" by Metropolitan Evlogy.
"Based on the evidence obtained," the SBU states that the bishop "was informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of equality of citizens based on their religious beliefs)."
The agency also assured that the "investigation to establish all the circumstances of the crime is ongoing."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Yevlogy of Sumy was handed a suspicion of "inciting strife".
