Patronal feast of Holy Spirit Cathedral celebrated in Chernivtsi
On the Feast of the Holy Spirit, the festive Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Chernivtsi was led by Metropolitan Meletiy, concelebrating with bishops and clergy.
On June 1, 2026, on the feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, celebrations took place at the Holy Spirit Cathedral of Chernivtsi on the occasion of the temple's patronal feast. Thousands of believers participated in the festive Divine Liturgy, reports the official Facebook page of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy of the UOC.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna. He was concelebrated by Metropolitan Longin of Bancheny, Metropolitan Euseviy of Shepetivka and Slavuta, Archbishop Veniamin of Khotyn, Bishop Iov of Kitsman, the clergy of the cathedral, and invited priests.
During the service, prayers were offered in the cathedral for peace in Ukraine, deliverance from the enemy, and help for the suffering, the destitute and all who have lost their homes. The believers also asked the Lord to strengthen the people and grant them hope, peace and spiritual resilience.
The eparchy noted that the patronal feast gathered numerous pilgrims and parishioners, becoming a testimony to the unity of Orthodox believers of Bukovyna and their faithfulness to the canonical Church.
After the Liturgy, the hierarchs, clergy and laypeople performed a procession around the cathedral. During the procession, the Gospel was read, festive hymns were sung, and the participants of the divine service were sprinkled with holy water.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the patronal feast was celebrated at the Kherson cathedral that suffered from shelling.
