On May 8, the lawyer of Father Serhiy Chertylin, priest Nikita Chekman, revealed details of the court hearing that resulted in Father Serhiy being sent back to pre-trial detention.
According to the lawyer, "During the court hearing, unfortunately, the court did not take into account all the circumstances indicated by the defense side and extended Father Serhiy's detention for more than 1 month."
The lawyer emphasized that the entire medical documentation confirming Father Serhiy's deteriorating health condition was not taken into account.
A particularly egregious fact was the violation of the confidentiality of the deliberation room, as lawyers discovered.
"During the judge's deliberation, investigator of the Security Service of Ukraine, Oleh Savenko, and prosecutor of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Dediuk, entered," said lawyer Nikita Chekman.
"Regarding this matter, appropriate complaints will be filed with the High Council of Justice, statements will be made to law enforcement agencies, because this is clearly arbitrary and blatant audacity on the part of law enforcement agencies," he emphasized.
The defense side believes that pressure was exerted on the judge: "The investigator and the prosecutor probably told the judge what decision he should make and similar things. This fact is documented by us."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the court again sent the UOJ journalists back to pre-trial detention.
