On July 30, the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra celebrated the feast day of the Sviatohirsk Icon of the Mother of God. In 2024, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, the Divine Liturgy was officiated by Archbishop Spiridon of Dobropillia and Archbishop Paisios of Kostiantynivka, both vicars of the Kyiv Metropolis. This was reported by the Telegram channels of the Pokrovsky Vicariate and the Sviatohirsk Monastery.
In addition to the archbishops, the clergy and guests of the monastery from various dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church also participated in the service.
During the Divine Liturgy, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine and the unity of global Orthodoxy.
Special petitions were also made to God and the Mother of God for the abbot of the Sviatohirsk Lavra, Metropolitan Arseniy, who has been in the Dnipro pre-trial detention center since April 24, 2024. The Lavra notes that not only the brothers and sisters of the monastery but also tens of thousands of Christians around the world hope for the release of the abbot.
After the Liturgy, a procession was held with the miraculous Sviatohirsk Icon of the Mother of God. The clergy and faithful circled the holy Lavra, reading the Gospel and singing hymns. During the procession, the ringing of bells continued, and the Lavra clergy sprinkled holy water on the monastery and all the pilgrims.
The religious procession concluded with a communal singing of a prayer to the Mother of God, glorifications, and many years.
As the UOJ previously reported, the ombudsman responded to the unlawful detention of Metropolitan Arseniy in the pre-trial detention center.
